(1) - system of classes
- As resistance to absolute power of the proprietor led to the agreement of the Charter of Liberties, the policy extended to the lower colonies and the Delaware colony was governed and controlled by Pennsylvania. This form of government remained until the American Revolution, where Delaware took control and governed themselves.
Religious Elements:
- Delaware had a large Quaker population, making it its chief religion.
Socio-Economic Elements:
- Citizens of Delaware were mostly middle class. Because of their economic stance, they resented the upper class. Therefore, many class tensions and struggles were created within this colony. In an attempt to help, the upper class made an effort to make a European social stratification(1), but they failed. This effort was unsuccessful because the middle class had the greater population, and they could not be taken under control. Besides population, the upper class could not take control and enforce their beliefs because of the democratic system.
